On Sunday June the 8th 2014 Pastor Bose preached a sermon entitled, “Who is the Holy Spirit?
The day of Pentecost is a day of great celebration. It is the day when the Holy Spirit descended on the earth.
“The Holy Spirit – is a person. If He is a person, then we must develop a relationship with Him “- thus the Pastor began.
The sermon revealed the identity of the Holy Spirit and gave insight into the essence of the celebration of the Day of Pentecost.
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption” (Eph. 4:30).
We insult the Holy Spirit when we do not communicate with Him. We need to turn to Him more often. God does all He does through the Holy Spirit.
If we are always in communion with the Holy Spirit, then we will not feel lonely. If a couple that fully loves one another, start to live separately and stop communicating, their love would vanish. The same thing applies to our relationship with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is always with us. We are sealed by the Holy Spirit.
Before Jesus ascended to heaven He promised that the Father would send the Holy Spirit to take His place on earth.The Day of Pentecost is the day God fulfilled His word. He promised to give the Holy Spirit in place of His Son and He did so. The Holy Spirit is the fulfillment of God’s promise.
“And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (Acts 1:4-5).
God baptizes with the Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit, He gave us the gift of speaking in tongues.
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”(Acts 1:8).
It is important to from the above passage that with the coming of the Holy Spirit we receive the power of an evangelist, and He leads us in this.
“So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. “(John 20:21 -23).
No one can preach the Gospel in his own power, but only after the Holy Spirit has come upon him.
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1).
God is a God of order. We need to give the Holy Spirit preeminence in order for Him to function properly.
“Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them” (Acts 2:3).
From this Scripture we see that the Holy Spirit found each one important and rested upon each one of them.
“They were all filled of the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4).
Anyone can speak in tongues, though some do so not immediately. Along with the infilling of the Holy Spirit comes great courage for Christ’s sake.
“But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.” (Acts 2:14-18).
Dear brothers and sisters, let’s give the Holy Spirit a worthy place in our lives.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.
