Pastor Bose started by saying…“Without serving to God it is impossible to become a great person”
Her words are confirmed in the Bible by life examples of David, Joseph, Moses, and of course, Jesus Christ. These characters and other great men were raised by God not because they were different from others (by growth, appearance, intelligence and so on). What was different about them is that they all had a desire and willingness to serve, a desire which they all translated into action.
During the era of Jesus Christ, just as it is now, people in the society occupied different social, political and economic positions. However, those in higher positions, used their positions as a control/domineering tool over those under them.
“Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:42-45)
What Jesus was trying to define, was the meaning of being a ruler or high official. It is about serving others and being their ‘slave’.
The Ephraimova Dictionary defines a slave as being:
- deprived of rights person who is totally dependent on someone else.
- a person who completely subordinates his will and actions to someone or something.
Based on the above definition, we can conclude that the life of a truly newborn believer, who truly understands the meaning of the Great Commission given by Jesus, will involve serving others; therefore their will and actions will be made subject to that of other people.
Pastor Bose also shared Romans 1:14-18 in line with the overall theme of the month of April which read…
“I am under obligation both to Greeks and to Barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.”
From this passage she brought out a point that preaching the gospel is a form of service since while in the process of preaching we reject ourselves overcoming our shyness, timidity and diffidence, putting all focus on taking the Gospel of Salvation to mankind.
As Apostle Paul said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…”, we have to ensure that we serve without discriminating; therefore we have to reach out to every person regardless their nationality, gender, race, sexual orientation, social/economic class, because God gave His Son Jesus to everyone!
Therefore, if you want to become GREAT why not take up a challenge to follow the steps of the great men of God who chose to be servants not only before Him but also before men!
