Year 2015 has been announced to be the year of God’s supernatural opportunities. However, opportunities do not fall from heaven like manna. They come through difficult circumstances; a grateful heart also leads to many opportunities. As we saw in the last anointing service, the books of University of Life bring limitless opportunities to solve one’s own problems and problems of other people while we spread the Kingdom of God. Today I would like to show you a new way to open doors, have divine meetings, get creative ideas and unexpected chances, produce fabulous findings and discoveries and it is – the Law of Differences.
What is the Law of Differences and what is it all about?
- The Law of Differences is the ability to see something unique, unmatched, and special that is endowed in every person.
- It is the ability to see the “star” in other people, i.e. the one-of-a-kind combination of inner and outer characteristics of the person, the
- richness of their inner world.
- It is the ability not only to see treasure in people, but also to let them know about it, to honour their peculiarities. When we keep silent
- about it, then the star of that person may not shine at us.
- The Law of Differences is manifestation of wisdom, because only a wise person is able to see perfections in others and learn from them.
- Only a wise person is able to notice the merits of other people in order to “apply” them to oneself. Only a wise person can see differences
- in others and can imitate, copy the things that others can do better.
Ability to live by the Law of Differences and attentive attitude to peculiarities of other people opens unlimited amount of opportunities. Let me give you some Biblical proof of this underlying premise.
The disciples of John the Baptist, having listened to their teacher, were able to see the differences between him and Jesus, when they met the latter, “Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus” (John 1:35-37). And it was those, who saw the differences, that subsequently became apostles in the team of Jesus Christ.
At the wedding in Cana of Galilee, Jesus’ Mother pointed out the “differences of her Son, and it resulted in water turning into wine. “His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” (John 2:1-11).
Abigail saw the importance, the peculiarity of King David, even though he was in exile at that time, “but the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living with the Lord your God” (1 Samuel 25:29). Thus, she opened a new happy page in her life. For her husband Nabal himself, his ambitions and interests were foremost, “Who is David, and who is the son of Jesse?” (1 Samuel 25:10) – as a result he faced an untimely end.
Rahab the harlot accepted Israeli spies, because she saw something in them that others could not see. It helped her to keep her whole family safe (Joshua 2:3-14).
God saw the difference between the sacrifice of Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:3-5).
Many people passed by blind Bartimaeus, who was lying at the city gates, but he being blind “saw” the power of Jesus among all other passers-by. Because of that he did not give up, but showed persistence and received the ability to see (Mark 10:46-52)!
Jesus always asked people, “Do you believe that I can heal you?” He wanted to understand if the person could see the difference, the anointing and grace of God on Him. “He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Matthew 16:15. Only when there is faith and understanding that God has everything under control, and that He has His time for everything, then He does a miracle.
On the contrary, Jesus was not able to do any miracles in his own town, because his compatriots did not see how He was different and believed Him to be the son of a common carpenter. “So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” (Matthew 13:57).
Whenever you do not see differences you lose opportunities, and the opposite is also true – if you can see the differences, you will definitely receive a miracle in your life.
The same way as He explained it to a Samaritan woman, the Lord reveals the importance of understanding of the Law of Differences to us today, “Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” (John 4:10).
It is wise to live by the Law of Differences, because it opens unbelievable opportunities.
If we look at another person looking for shortcomings, noticing that they are worse than we are, then we lose the things we could receive and learn from them.
How do you mostly look at others? Are you looking for faults or for perfections? The first way leads to a dead-end, false consolation that in some things we are not worse than somebody else. In such a case, whether we understand it or not, we lose so much. The second way helps us to notice advantages of the other person, to humble in order to point them out, to honour them, and by doing so to enrich ourselves. This is what collecting riches that will be useful in eternity is all about.
”In my walks, every man I meet is my superior in some way, and in that I learn from him”, said Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of the most outstanding American thinkers and writers.
In order to see opportunities, one needs to develop the following formula in regards to other people: every man has something that can enrich me. Every man knows something that I do not. “In everyone there is something precious hidden that you won’t find in anyone else” (Baal Shem Tov). I must bow down before every personality in order to see the blessing hidden there for me. You must always recognise what others have and aspire to learn from everyone. Such pattern of behaviour is a straight path to discovering opportunities through proper relationships with other people.
We must always point out the advantages of others, even if in all other matters this person concedes in one way or another. However, their perfections or advantages must be emphasised. This is the essence of the second commandment, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another” (John 13:34).
See every man as a jewel, as God’s creation. Set all prejudice aside, put some effort, and consciously look for good things, do not focus on imperfections, do not allow negativity to blind you and rob you of God’s peace. The following quote by Blaise Pascal emphasises our responsibility in building healthy relationships and using opportunities: “In faith there is enough LIGHT for those who want to believe and enough SHADOWS to blind those who don’t.”
Therefore, let us be the sons of Light and not darkness. Let us look and see the way the Lord would want us to. “While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light” (John 12:36).
